New Label, New Sound: Young Culture Is Ready For The Big Leagues

We had a chance to sit down with Young Culture to talk about their plans for the future and signing to Equal Vision Records!

To start, could you give readers a little background about the band for those who may not have heard of you?

Gabe: Yeah! Young Culture has been around for a little over 2 years now I believe. We started playing local shows in Albany and wanted to expand so we started booking little tours and playing out more. We are now a 4 piece pop/rock band and have put out two EP’s! Currently working on our next release.

Alex: It pretty much started just me and Gabe when we were still in high school and ended up being received better than we ever expected, hence why we’re still doing it!

Congratulations on signing to Equal Vision Records! What was that process like? How did you react when they reached out about signing? How do you hope that this big step will help you grow as a band?

Gabe: Thank you! The process was exciting and went very smooth. When we got the offer I couldn’t believe it. It felt like all the hard work was finally paying off. Everyone at EVR has been so sweet to us. I believe that having the backing from EVR is going to allow us to have our songs on a platform that we wouldn’t have had without them. We are very eager to continue growing and working super hard.

Alex: Agreed, it all just felt super right at the time and we’re so fortunate to have such incredible people backing us.

Seeing as signing to a label is a huge step in your career, what are three goals that you have for the band for next year?

Alex: Bringing Young Culture to Europe, putting out our first full length and getting to know some more fans!

Gabe: Would absolutely love to have a full length out, start playing some festivals, and continue meeting new people and traveling as much as possible with YC.

You’ve just announced an East Coast tour with Locals Only; what city are you most excited to play? Do you have anything special planned for the tour in terms of live performance?

Alex: This is going to be a very special tour, we love these boys. Super excited to hit all these cities because it’s been a while since we’ve been to a lot of these places!

Gabe: VERY stoked for this tour. We haven’t hit the east coast in a while so it’ll be super cool to play all of these shows.  Live we are going to be playing some new songs we’ve never played before, so I am extremely happy to share those with everyone.

Since signing to Equal Vision, you released your single “Drift”; tell us a bit about the song. What’s the story behind it and what was the writing process like?

Gabe: The writing process was really cool.  It was the first time all 4 of us were able to be in the studio together throwing around new ideas and concepts. We worked with Sam Guiana and Derek DiScanio as producers who really took the song seriously.

Do you plan on continuing with Drift’s sound moving forward or do you want to stay in the realm of your previous release “Bloom”?

Alex: I’d like to think that our sound on each release has been slightly different then the previous, still that Young Culture sound, but a better, maybe different side of us!

Gabe:  I think all of us agree that we don’t want to be put in a box genre wise.  So with this new release we have a wide spectrum of songs and styles of music that all sound like Young Culture but isn’t holding us to one specific genre.

What’s your favorite song that you’ve written thus far and why?

Gabe: Probably one of the new ones on our next release called “21 Days”.  As we were writing and recording it it just felt so special and I had a moment of like “dang, we are really writing hit songs” haha.

Alex: Everything off of our new release. I’m really proud of all of it and super excited for people to hear it all. Has something to offer for every kind of person.

Any exciting plans for the rest of the year after tour? Can fans expect new music anytime soon?

Gabe: MORE TOURS! And absolutely more music! Looking to release something early 2019!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Gabe: Just want to thank you for the interview! This was a lot of fun. Very stoked on what is to come from YC and cannot wait to share everything.

Alex: Thank you for your time! To anyone reading this, we appreciate all the love and support, peace!
