New Jersey based pop-rock band, The Ones You Forgot released their new single “Something For Me” today! We caught up with the band to hear all about their next chapter.
How does it feel releasing music again after your debut EP “Too Afraid To Say” in 2018?
It feels amazing! It’s been so long since we’ve put out new music so it really has brought fresh air and new life into the band. It’s really just a huge bubble of excitement for us and it’s gonna pop once everyone can finally hear it!
What was the inspiration behind the song “Something For Me”?
“Something For Me” was essentially inspired by self love. It’s all about sticking up for yourself and realizing the love and respect that you deserve from those around you. In the song it mostly refers to a significant other, and how it still can be a struggle to walk away, even when you’ve been disrespected. It’s frustrating to know when someone/something isn’t good for you yet you still go back.
I really love that you’re going for a more pop-oriented vibe with this one! What inspired the sound change?
Honestly, it just came naturally! It was written on an acoustic guitar yet still managed to develop that punchy/high energy vibe. There was no real plan for it to turn out the way it did, it all kind of just flowed once we got it to the studio. Seeing the song come to life like that is always awesome, especially when your producer understands what works best for you (shout out to Rob!)
You have an extensive list of bands you’ve opened up for, including the final Vans Warped Tour in Atlantic City in 2019- can you talk a bit about what it’s like to have played at such an iconic festival?
It was absolutely incredible and to be honest we never get tired talking about it, haha! It was a dream come true and a full circle moment for everyone in the band. We all grew up attending Warped and dreaming of being on one of the stages. The fact that it actually happened, on one of the last days of the tour’s existence, is magical. It’s not going to be the same without it this summer but we are so thankful that we got to be a part of it.
What’s next for The Ones You Forgot?
More music! We’re thinking we would like to do another EP down the road. We have a few songs that are ready to go (and we absolutely LOVE them), so we’re hoping that you will hear them soon! Once it’s safe to tour again, you know that’s on the list too. We can’t wait for live music to make its comeback.
